FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ANSWERS TO YOUR SELF-DEFENCE QUESTIONS

Martial arts focus on answering questions about yourself and the world around you.  Naturally some questions will

come to mind regarding our training.

Can you really train someone to defend themselves quickly?

Yes.  Our classes avoid "traditional" martial arts training methods and instead focus solely on effective,

"reality-based" tactics and self-defense strategies.  We do this in a "here's exactly what you need to do" way,

which allows you to come away with effective self-defense instruction, without the commitment that the "arts"

usually entail.

Our techniques come from natural motion.  You already do the motions every day, we just teach you to change

them slightly for the technique.  We adapt our programs to you, not you to our programs.

Which of the martial arts do you base your training methods on?

From the Phillipines:  Kali, Pananjakman, Panantukan, Dumog, and Kino Mutai

From China:  Wing Chun and Tai Chi

From Thailand:  Muay Thai

From Indonesia or Malaysia:  Silat

From France:  Savate

From the United States:  Jeet Kune Do and Western Boxing

From Brazil:  Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

From Russia:  Sambo and Systema

What is Contemporary Jeet Kune Do?

Jeet Kune Do is a martial art that can simply be defined as "free".  It's not Karate, Boxing, Tae Kwon Do, or

Muay Thai; rather it is a perfect blend of all martial arts.  Jeet Kune Do focuses on the bare essentials, teaching you

what you truly need to know in order to apply martial arts to your life.  It's very effective and adapting.

Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do practitioners stick to the techniques promoted by Si Qung Bruce Lee.

In Contemporary Jeet Kune Do, we acknowledge and practice Si Qung Bruce Lee's principle of taking what is useful,

discarding what is not, and adding to it what is your own.  We acknowledge his teachings that circumstances are

always changing, so our methods should change with it.  As a result we are not stuck in the past and have

developed our teaching to deal with the increased speed and strength of modern opponents.  We take into account

and train for altercations in kicking range, punching range, trapping range, ground fighting, and weapons.

What is Filthy MMA?

Jeet Kune Do is regarded as the first Mixed Martial Art as it combined fighting in kicking, punching, and trapping range

instead of just one range.  Progressive Fighting Systems was the first to add ground fighting to the program.

Today Mixed Martial Artists are considered to be the best fighters in the world.  Like all sports, MMA has rules that

hinder it in real live self-defense situations.  Filthy MMA is MMA without the rules.  We become the best fighters that

we can became at the four ranges, but realizing that there will always be someone better than us, we cheat.

We use the bodies most potent weapons against our attackers most vulnerable areas.

What sets you apart from everyone else?

What separates us from everyone else is our training methods.  We don't just teach you the best most effective

techniques, we show you how they work in real life situations.  We don't leave you wondering if what you learned

will work, our scenario training proves to you that it works.  Our training is designed to let you feel what it is like to

be in a real life fight.  You experience the multitude of split second changes that can occur in a real fight.

There are only so many ways that the body can move, so there are only so many possible techniques.  As a result

techniques over lap between the various arts.  It's how you train them that makes a difference and determines

there effectiveness.

I've already trained in martial arts.  What can you teach me?

If you have already trained in martial arts, there is still more you can learn.  One of the great things about the

martial arts is that there is always more to teach - new techniques, concepts, and philosophies designed to enhance

your abilities and knowledge.

I don't have time to drive to a gym.  What can I do?

Our Certified instructors will come to you!  In addition to offering semi-private workouts at our facilities, we provide

private, in-home training.  This allows our trainers to devise a specific regimen to help enhance your skills, while

giving you the opportunity to express your specific needs and wants.

Besides, allowing you to train at home is another effort we make to remove your stress and allow you to enjoy a

vigorous workout without having to deal with traffic and noise beforehand.

What kind of programs do your offer?

We offer a wide variety of programs that will suit any need.  We feature private and semi-private training, intense

weekend programs, and seminars.  Schedules are always changing due to student needs, so the best way to see

when the classes are is to contact us.

How can a Certified Instructor help me?

Our instructors are extremely well-trained professionals.  They have practiced the arts of Jeet Kune Do and Kali as

well as many others for years, and they are prepared to teach anyone what they wish to know.

Our instructors will not only serve as trainers, but as coaches, mentors, friends, and motivators.  They work to make

sure you achieve your goals.  That is their job and they are good at what they do.

I heard that
Bruce Lee closed down his schools because he did not want Jeet Kune Do to become just another style, so there are no real Jeet Kune Do Instructors.

Bruce Lee certified three instructors to teach Jeet Kune Do.  They were
Taky Kimura, James Yimm Lee, and Dan

Inosanto.

Kimura taught in Seattle, Lee in Oakland, and Inosanto in Chinatown, Los Angeles.  James Lee passed before Bruce

Lee returned to Hong Kong.  Before he returned to Hong Kong he had Kimura and Inosanto close his schools.  He

gave them permission to continue teaching, but only in small groups.  His reasoning was that if Jeet Kune Do was

taught in large classes then students would get caught up in the techniques and forget his philosophies.  It would

also make it more difficult to adapt the teaching to the student.

Jeet Kune Do is meant to be a personal journey.  Each student is to "Take what is useful, discard what is useless,

and add to it something of themselves."  As a result everyone's Jeet Kune Do will be different.  To properly guide

a student you must teach in small classes, so that you are aware of each of your students.  As a result many Jeet

Kune Do instructors teach out of their homes.

What is your martial arts lineage?

My martial arts lineage goes from Bruce Lee to Dan Inosanto to Paul Vunak to myself and from Rickson Gracie to Paul Vunak to myself.
